Team 3DRoad to The WCG - no.2
October 16-20, 2005
by Josh "Dominator" Sievers
October 16 - Today we had the finals for Digital Life against Complexity. We played a best of three format and won the first two matches 16-13 and 16-6. It was a great tournament, we won $10,000 and got to meet some cool celebrities. The venue was pretty cool with very extravagant booths and decorations from all of the major gaming corporations out there. My favorites were the gaming hummers that had computers and x-box's in them.
October 17 - Everyone had flights back from the Digital Life tournament in New York City, not much happening.
October 18 - Today we met on Ventrilo and talked about practice plans for the next few weeks. One of our new recruits, Shaguar, is Canadian and won't be able to attend WCG with us so we have to coordinate a practice schedule for the rest of us. We ended on that note considering we just got back from New York City for the Digital Life tournament.
October 19 - This year's WCG will have Counter-strike Source instead of Counter-strike 1.6 played in the tournament. Source is a different version of CS that will take some time to get used to. I have only played Source a few hours in the past month since we were preparing for other 1.6 tournaments such as GGL Americup, Digital Life. The movement, maps, and weapon reaction will be the toughest things to get used to. All of us have been playing Source on our own time trying to familiarize ourselves with these changes. Volcano, Method, and I played a pick up game with PowersGaming (the #1 Source team in the world) and played really well against them. I had 20+ frags one half and 30 another half, and Method had 30 frags both halves.
October 20 - This week we are going to start playing source as a team and find out if we can get to learn new strategies to fit the new maps. Even though the maps are very similar there are still many little secrets we need to learn. We can't boost the same, there are different flash spots, flashes are different, smokes are different, boxes are rearranged, etc. I think we are just going to scrimmage this week to have fun with the game and start off learning things about the maps by playing them.
